Message When you bend metal, you're stretching it. You're not just changing the shape but you're also changing the size. If you were to measure the distance of the arc before the impact and after the impact, you'd see that it's slightly longer now. It won't be noticeable with your eye, but when you try to put it back to its original shape you'll see that you have some "slack".

That's what the guy at the paintless dent removal meet was telling me. He said it's easier to fix high strength steel (like on our doors) than it is to fix the aluminum (on our hoods) since the steel will pop back into shape while the aluminum deforms more.

Just like another poster here said, working with aluminum is an artform because it takes some creativity to get it to do what you want it to. I'd let the guys at the wheel repair place do their magic.
